Homemade Gnocchi

Have you, like us, just always bought premade gnocchi from the grocery store? If we knew how easy it was to make ourselves, we wouldn’t have waited so long to try it out. All it takes is 3 ingredients and a bit of salt to make gnocchi that’s tastier than what you buy in the grocery store. Just give it a try.

Recipe:

Shopping List for 4 portions Gnocchi

1 kg potatoes
1 egg
300g all purpose flour
salt

Preparation Time: approx. 60 minutes

Directions for the Homemade Gnocchi:

Add a pinch of salt to a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Peel and wash the potatoes, then chop them into small pieces and add to the boiling water. Cook until they are soft: about 20 minutes.

When the potatoes are soft mash them until all the lumps are gone. Place a sheet of baking paper on you workbench or counter and put all the mashed potato on the baking paper. Add the egg and 2 pinches of salt and kneed into the mashed potato.

Continue to kneed, added flour a bit at a time. Add flour until the potato doesn’t feel sticky anymore. Don’t worry, it’s really sticky at the beginning but as you start adding the flour it will get less sticky quickly.

When you’ve got that finished, take a chunk about the size of an egg and form it into a roll about 2 cm thick. Cut the roll into 2 cm long pieces, then, using the back of a fork, make the typical gnocchi imprint – finished. Do this until all the potato is used up. Before serving cook the gnocchi in a pot of boiling water with a pinch of salt for around 3 minutes. They are finished as soon as they float up to the top of the water.

Gnocchi tastes best with a delicious sauce. Here you will find a recipe for a Gorgonzola-Spinach Sauce.
